A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :
The Center for Teaching Excellence at UNK promotes an ongoing discussion about teaching and learning. Teaching is viewed as a serious intellectual endeavor that requires continued professional development and scholarly research to promote and maintain excellence. UNK uses a “grow your own” program hiring those working toward a terminal degree. A win-win situation, individuals are working while completing the degree and the University gains a well-qualified and experience employee.
Faculty Exchange Program - Faculty-led study abroad programs (UNK Semester Abroad Programs) exist in China and Peru. Additionally, UNK Faculty have the opportunity to lead the UNK-based (Nebraska Semester Abroad) program which is offered each Spring semester in the Czech Republic. URL-http://www.unk.edu/academics/studyabroad.aspx?id=14619 UNK also has faculty exchange agreements with partner universities abroad. These are agreements with no formal requirements of equal time exchanged or equal faculty level exchange (ie. a PhD for a PhD.)
