Mission of the Unité du développement durable (UDD) :
The UDD carries the institutional position on sustainability.
According to the Politique de developpement durable (Sustainability policy), the UDD monitors the implementation of concrete actions in the field, both in the academic and administrative activities of the University, by:
1. Providing information regarding the best practices in sustainable development and acting as a resource to the University's direction and community;
2. Identifying and proposing efficient and well-supported practices in sustainable development;
3. Setting up or promoting pilot projects relating to the four dimensions of sustainable development;
4. Identifying and communicating all actions taken by the Université de Montréal and its community in sustainable development;
5. Participating in determining official positions of the University on sustainable development on the local, national, and international scenes;
6. Collaborating with various stakeholders of the institution in the development of policies, procedures, guidelines, programs, and indicators for sustainable development;
7. Advising stakeholders on the implementing of government policies regarding sustainability;
8. Representing the University's administration within the community and to external organizations in sustainable development;
9. Collaborating with affiliated schools by pooling the expertise and the actions of each.

In 2021-2022, the Sustainability Unit designed the university's new Sustainability Action Plan through a co-construction process that brought together nearly 100 members of our community in nine streams. Students, faculty and staff participated in this important reflection, the first to date, at the University level.
