Students can get involved in governance through the Fédération des Associations Étudiantes du Campus de l’Université de Montréal (FAECUM). The Council of the FAECUM elects student(s) for each of these committee: - University Assembly The University Assembly consists of 100 members from the community. It sets out the general principles guiding the administration and development of the University and makes recommendations to the Council accordingly. It also edicts the regulations on the status of teachers and academic disciplines. Members of the Assembly: Rector; vice-rectors; deans; at least one professor elected from each faculty (with at least 10 professors); three elected council members; six students elected by the FAECUM Council; three members elected by the employees; and all other members elected in accordance with statutes. - University Council The Council exercises all the rights of the University and all the powers necessary for its administration and development. It adopts the budget, approves the financial statements, nominates deans and vice-rectors, and the rector (along with the University Assembly). Four main committees report to the Council: governance, human resources, audit, and real estate. Members of the Council: Rector; five members appointed by the University Assembly; two student members appointed after consulting with the FAECUM Council; two members appointed after consulting with the council representing graduate of the University; two members appointed by the moderator of the ecclesiastic faculties; eight members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor upon recommendation by the minister of education; and up to four members appointed by the Council (elected with at least three quarters of the votes). * For the appointment, the University Council respect the propositions made during consultation of each stakeholder (when a applicable). - Studies Committee The committee supervises the educational organization of the University and approves the regulations on this matter. Members of the Commission: Rector; vice-rectors; deans; up to four members elected by the University Assembly; institutional directors; and all other members appointed by the University Council upon recommendation by the University Assembly. * For the appointment, the University Council respect the propositions made during consultation of each stakeholder (when applicable).

The employees can get involved in governance through the Syndicat des employés-es de l'Université de Montréal (SEUM, employees union). Also, the Syndicat général des professeurs-es de l'Université de Montréal (the teachers union) is represented by teachers who sit at the University Assembly - University Assembly See above

The framework of University Assembly and Council is provided for by the Statutes of Université de Montréal. The Statutes allows for the appointment or election of various stakeholders of the Université de Montréal community to the University Assembly and to the University Council, as well as to their respective Committees.
