Total percentage of the institution’s employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary method of transportation:
67

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
During autumn 2011, Université de Montréal in collaboration with researchers from Chaire mobilité de Polytechnique Montréal (Mobility research chair) and our Observatoire de la mobilité durable (observatory of sustainable mobility) surveyed all Université de Montréal’s community members on their transportation habits to reach the campus. With a percentage of response of 18% , results from this interactive survey revealled that buses and subway were already a primary means of transportation to get to and from campus. As it’s a very long and expensive process, we can’t launch this kind of inquiry every years. However, we do updates of results by using data generated through other serious transportation surveys. Figures presented below are extracted from the 10th Origin-Destination survey of the Agence Métropolitaine des Transports (AMT, Metropolitan Transport Authority) of Montreal . The timeframe is from September 4th to December 21th, 2013. It surveyed 188700 persons, composing more than 78800 households of the Montreal region. This sample was generated randomly from the list of subscribers to a residential phone service. This Origin-Destination survey was conducted using the best practices available in this field and results are used as a reference by various public bodies that need data on transportation habits in the Montreal region. Extracts below were done by Chaire mobilité de Polytechnique Montréal for participants who declared to get to and from ours pavillions. This represents almost 22 000 daily travels.
