The eco-leaders program for employees comes from the same initiative as the program for students. The two parts share the same training tools (common training modules and online platform for private discussions) and most activities.
A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
For the first year of the program, employees who had previously shown interest and/or offered to volunteer for sustainability were directly recruited by the Sustainability office.
A selection process through interviews will be put in place for subsequent years.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Eco-leaders provide leadership related to sustainability issues within their immediate community. They are active members of a wider network of people particularly challenged by these topics and willing to be carriers of solutions. Eco-leaders become sort of liaisons between the central actors of sustainable development on campuses and the university community at large. They often address the problems they encounter and share them with central players in a two-way exchange, as part of an inspiring and positive approach.
Examples of issues on which the eco-leaders are asked to intervene:
- event planning
- green office
- waste management outreach
- sustainable transportation
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
The University's Sustainability Office manages the eco-leaders program for both students and employees. An annual budget is allocated and a student is hired (part-time) early in September to animate the program activities.
The program also receives recruitment support from the federation of student associations on campus for the student portion.
