Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Data was gathered using the 2023 IPEDS Data Feedback Report, the National Center for Education Statistics website (IPEDS), and the University of Montana’s Institutional Research website and staff. # Academic Divisions and # Academic Departments were both generated by the Provost's Office. There is a significant difference between the number of academic departments reported in 2017 and 2020 that we were unable to explain. However, we feel that 56 accurately represents the number of departments currently and is the same number reported in our 2021 STARS submission. Distance education-only number provided by Jeff Wimett in the Provost's office and includes UG & Grad students, Main Campus and Missoula College. # students residing on campus provided by Michael Burk-Boggs in UM Housing. Number includes students living in on-campus residence halls AND students living in UM-owned apartments (Lewis & Clark Villages and University Villages). We included all three areas in our total student resident number in our 2017 and 2021 reports. We do not include energy use or water use from off-campus housing, so there's an argument to be made for not including off-campus apartment residents in our total number.
