The UM Workers Compensation and Risk Management Office do not currently use a nationally recognized, but they do have a robust operation of education, tracking, and process by which they identify and mitigate safety risks. The department does trainings of supervisors periodically to assist in identification of safety risks. UM also has a Safety Committee chaired by Director of Risk Management and Environmental Health, Chuck Emnett, that meets quarterly to review safety programs and discuss identified safety risks. Our campus also has a system whereby the Director is included in all workers compensation reports of injury so that any safety risks involved in actual workers comp injuries can immediately be addressed and remediated.

UM has a full-time staff position dedicated to tracking recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health. The Office of Sustainability requested this data and a summary sheet was provided for FY23. According to the Office of Risk Management, UM receives reports of incidents quarterly and tracks them in order to identify patterns of injury or illness that correlate to department or particular activities. The data provided above was included on UM's 2023 OSHA report.
