A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:

The University of Montana uses ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to benchmark our energy usage and create actionable data and has been doing so since 2009. This program helps us track our building energy use and ultimately use energy more efficiently. This has been true in both the University Center (our student union building) and in the Fitness & Recreation Center (the gym). Both buildings were identified as good locations for recommissioning and lighting upgrades in 2021. With the support of McKinstry, an energy performance contractor with whom UM has worked in the past, both buildings were recommissioned and received full LED upgrades on all interior lighting. ENERGY STAR was used to track building performance before and after project completion and were used to verify the terms of our agreement with McKinstry (guaranteed energy savings from recommended strategies like lighting and recommissioning).

Although the University of Montana does not have any buildings formally certified as LEED O&M, we have researched the process and taken the initial steps to pursue O&M at a future date. We have a Green Cleaning Policy in place, a Tobacco Free Policy, zero waste materials management program, energy management, and a robust alternative transportation program.

Please note that there is not a single document compiling the policies and guidelines but several links as provided herein. Sustainability-related policies include Purchasing-Energy Star, Tobacco Free Campus, and Green Cleaning.
