A brief description of the institution’s third party certified land holdings:

The University of Montana became a Bee Campus USA member in spring 2024, earning the credential because of our abundant native plant landscaping, our adoption of an integrated pest management plan, and creation of a shared governance committee dedicated to supporting pollinators, and the inclusion of pollinator health and research in many of our academic courses.

In 2016, the entire UM campus become certified by Tree Campus USA. The Mountain Campus is also the state of Montana arboretum, stewarded by a very active arboretum committee that regularly hosts tours, educational events, and fundraises for arboretum improvements and maintenance.

UM's main campus also has 2 areas that are National Wildlife Federation certified habitat surrounding our University Center, the student union building.
