A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
Every new employee is required to attend New Employee Welcome, a 3 hour program organized by Human Resource Services that covers campus resources, insurance benefits, sustainability, and a brief overview of about 10 other campus departments. In the past, the Sustainability Director has given a presentation at orientation about campus sustainability and ongoing initiatives. Since COVID, the New Employee Welcome was moved to an online webinar, and departments were no longer invited to present at NEW.
To adapt to a virtual platform, we created a brief video that's shared during NEW. As of July 2024, NEW will once again be moved to multiple in-person trainings. We have been in contact with the Office of Organizational Learning and Development, now in charge of employee orientation, to incorporate sustainability training once again into the program. For now, they are sharing the video we created and we are working together to build content for the new in-person training. Partners with other sustainability themes, including transportation and dining, will also be participating in this new program.
