Environmental Studies

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

The Environmental Studies program teaches students through an interdisciplinary approach integrating natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. This program includes hands-on learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. Students learn creative ways to handle environmental problems. At the undergraduate level, students are able to focus in five areas related to environmental studies; environmental justice, traditional ecological knowledge, environmental pre-law, environmental science, environmental writing and literature, and sustainability studies.

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science & Sustainability

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

The B.S. in Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESS) connects science and practice, so students graduate with the knowledge and skills to solve complex environmental problems and advance sustainability. ESS students can specialize in ecosystem science and restoration, environmental policy and planning, climate science and environmental change, sustainable livelihoods and communities, water resources, or use the highly flexible resource conservation option to design their own emphasis.

Parks, Tourism, and Recreation Management

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

The undergraduate program in Parks, Tourism, and Recreation Management provides students with the skills needed to work in the outdoor industry while also protecting natural resources. Students can choose an optional degree track in recreation resource management, nature-based tourism, and outdoor recreation services.

Mountain Studies minor

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (3rd program):

The interdisciplinary Mountain Studies minor will help you develop the knowledge and skills to better promote and integrate sustainability and community-related values through the geographic study of social, economic, cultural, environmental and geopolitical issues of mountainous places and regions. In addition to coursework, your studies will include mountain-focused study abroad, internships and other experiential learning opportunities.
