Since 2011, the University of Montana has committed to pursuing LEED certification on all new construction projects over $3M because of Montana state law. In 2011, the Payne Family Native American Center qualified for LEED Platinum. Since then, four new buildings have been added to the university’s campus: the Gilkey Building for Executive Education, the Washington Champion Center, the new Missoula College campus, and the Student Athlete Academic Center. All four facilities are certified LEED Gold. In total, these buildings cover 230,702 square feet.
