O+M Certified Space

Building space must be certified under a rating system focusing on the operations and maintenance of existing buildings (e.g. LEED O+M) to count as certified space for this credit. Sustainability in new construction and major renovation projects (e.g. LEED BD+C certification) is covered in the Building Design and Construction credit.

LEED O+M Platinum or the highest achievable level under another GBC rating system 0 Square feet
LEED O+M Gold or the 2nd highest level under another 4- or 5-tier GBC rating system 0 Square feet
Certified at mid-level under a 3- or 5-tier GBC rating system (e.g. BREEAM-In Use, CASBEE for Existing Buildings, DGNB, Green Star Performance) 0 Square feet

If reporting uncertified space, provide the following:

Uncertified Space

Indoor Air Quality Management

0

A copy of the IAQ management policy or protocol:

Green Cleaning

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with a published green cleaning policy, program or contract ? (0-100):
100

A copy or the green cleaning policy:
A brief description of how green cleaning is incorporated into cleaning contracts:
The University of Montana does not contract with any outside businesses to clean our facilities, so all custodial personnel and cleaning protocols are subject to the same university-wide policies. Currently, custodial services are distributed across campus and managed by several different administrators, but the Green Cleaning Working Group ensures a certain amount of collaboration, standardization, and implementation of the green cleaning policy. Departments are currently allowed to purchase the green cleaning products of their choice, but must document what they're using and make sure all purchases meet policy requirements. The Green Cleaning Working Group acts as a peer accountability team, reviewing product selections, granting waivers when green products can't be identified, and supporting product testing and collaboration across departments.

Energy Management and Benchmarking

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with an energy management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
75

A brief description of the energy management or benchmarking program:
Over the past 5 years, UM has made a concerted effort to install energy and natural gas smart meters in as many of our buildings as possible. Currently, we have installed 47 energy smart meters, 40 steam condensate meters, and 4 water meters in our buildings. The meters cover 30 of our buildings on campus, including the largest energy users, and account for 83% of our total energy costs on campus. As these meters have been installed, each has been connected to the Energy Star database and dashboard. We have been using this free tool until we can afford to purchase a more nuanced and complex energy management and dashboard system.

Water Management and Benchmarking

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with a water management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
0

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Although the University of Montana does not have any buildings formally certified as LEED EBOM, we have researched and initatiated the process. We have a Green Cleaning Policy in place, a Tobacco Policy, waste stream management, energy management, and an alternative transportation system. These have not yet been certified to meet LEED requirements however. Please note that there is not a single document compiling the policies and guidelines but several links as provided herein. Sustainability-related policies include Purchasing-Energy Star, Tobacco-Free Campus, and Green Cleaning:http://umt.edu/policies/.
