A brief description of the farmers’ market:
MIZZOU Farmer’s Market
The Mizzou Farmer's Market began on Earth Day in the Spring of 2009, the Wellness Resource Center coordinated a Farmer’s Market event on the MU campus. Students, faculty and staff were invited to sample and purchase the delicious tastes of the Columbia Farmer’s Market including: strawberries, homemade granola bars, farm-fresh eggs, goat cheese, baked pies and breads, soymilk, grilled hamburgers, BBQ sauces, decorative plants and more. Other campus offices were present, and provided information and give-a-ways on ways to stay healthy. The Wellness Resource Center along with Sustain Mizzou, Greeks Going Green, Healthy For Life, University Extension, Campus Dining, and PedNet & GetAbout Columbia all encouraged participants to celebrate Earth Day. The event was so popular that the WRC planned another Market that next fall. When surveyed, 99% of attendees said they would attend the market again. They appreciated the support of local farmers, connection of the community and the university, and a the wonderful food. Due to this overwhelming support by participants and the local press, the Farmer’s Market event has been approved to occur monthly during the months of April through September, bringing more variety and exposure of the market to the MU campus.
