A brief description of how the institution ensures that its lowest-paid workers (including contractors, if applicable) receive sustainable compensation:
MU is currently conducting a Staff Job Title and Salary Study in order to assess campus jobs in an effort to eliminate redundancies in job functions as well as to ensure sustainable and fair compensation is given to all employees. An internally equitable and externally competitive compensation and classification system for enhanced recruitment and retention of staff was developed through the study.
The study has evaluated 2589 positions thusfar, many in the Student Support Services sector, but is still underway and is being applied to positions across campus. Using the new Global Grading System (GGS), market data was collected and pay ranges were developed to create a new compensation structure. The study is expected to be fully completed by Fall Semester of 2012 whereby the analysis of most if not all campus positions will be completed.
In addition, Human Resource Services runs regular reports to ensure employees are paid into the ranges of their assigned positions. If an employee is paid below the minimum of the range, then HRS works with departments to ensure the employee is moved up into the range. HRS also ensures that no employee is paid less than the FLSA and State minimum wage.
