The Mizzou Botanic Garden was established in 1999, under Chancellor Richard Wallace as part of the campus beautification efforts. The garden currently has eleven thematic and seven special collection gardens around the Mizzou campus and uses as many native species as possible. Parts of the garden focuses solely on native plant species, such as the Native Missouri Tree Collection located outside of the Life Sciences Building.
