A brief description of the food donation program:
At the end of each operating session any perishable, unprepared food is donated to the Central Missouri Food Bank.
The Sustain Mizzou Local Food Drive is a two-part service project benefiting Missouri farmers as well as the underprivileged in the Columbia, MO area.
The first part is fund raising. For the past five years, Sustain Mizzou has joined together with other organizations to raise money on campus.
The second part is purchasing. The Food Drive committee begins purchasing produce from local farmers after the fund raiser in Spring. The general rule is that the farms the food comes from need to be small operations and they need to be within 50 miles of the Columbia city limits.
