Welcome to the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. Our mission is to enhance and improve the college experience for students of color at UMKC.
The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management’s mission is to enrich the lives of students and others through quality educational services and purposeful co-curricular programming.

Advising and mentoring
The Multicultural Student Affairs Office serves students of color at UMKC by maintaining an open door policy, advising student organizations, engaging in one-on-one counseling and facilitating in fostering the growth and development of students of color by implementing educational, social and cultural programming. February is African-American History Month
The entire month of February celebrates the contributions and achievements of African-American men and women. Please see below to view our 2012 African American History Month Calendar of Events.
Freedom Breakfast
The Freedom Breakfast, which takes place in January, honors the memory and contribution of Dr. Martin Luther King, and serves as a kick-off to African-American History Month. The breakfast is sponored by the African-American Student Union (TAASU), along with planning and preparation help from the Multicultural Student Affairs Office.
Latino Heritage Month – September 15 – October 15
During Latino Heritage Month, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs invites you to experience diversity from a Latino perspective. Events for the month include a Latino Professionals Panel Discussion, Latin food and dancing celebrations, Exploring SW Blvd, and many other exciting educational, cultural, social, and outreach programs.
Youth Days
For more than 20 years, the African-American and Latino Youth Days program has been a collaborative effort between the UMKC Office of Admissions and the UMKC Office of Multicultural Student Affairs with the recent support of the Alumni Committee on Multicultural and Public Affairs.
The program's purpose is to encourage high school sophomores to consider making plans to pursue a higher education and to think about career options that a a college education will offer them.
