A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):

We utilized the membership rosters of UM’s Flagship Constellation research initiative, which focuses on community wellbeing, disaster resilience and brain health, to identify which of those faculty members had at least one research area related to sustainability. We also reviewed the research topics of faculty involved in the following sustainability related programs or centers on campus: the environmental studies minor core faculty, the UM Sustainable Energy and Environment research group, and the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation Research. This is not a comprehensive list, as faculty members who are not associated with the groups mentioned above engage in sustainability work, but we felt this was the most feasible and replicable methodology for our first submission. This inventory only includes faculty who are tenured or tenure-track. We used UM's total department count as the total number of departments with faculty conducting research.
