Environmental Studies

Interdisciplinary curriculum that introduces students to vital environmental issues of our times, awakening or strengthening a sense of environmental awareness and a commitment to environmental stewardship and justice. Courses in the humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences focus on diverse aspects of environmental thought, research, and awareness—from poetry to hydrology, from forest conservation to animal studies, from public policy to geology, from whaling history to organic farming.

A brief description of the undergraduate minor, concentration or certificate (2nd program):
This is a new multi-disciplinary minor with particular regard for natural and technological disasters, pandemic, domestic and international terrorism, and climate change/environmental degradation. The minor requires students to complete 18 credit hours including two courses that provide a foundational experience (Emergency Management and Criminal Justice and Disasters and Mental Health). The remaining 12 hours are selected from courses comprised of psychology, criminal justice, sociology, social work, political science and nutrition and hospitality management.
