UMN Morris functions both as a unique campus and as part of the University of Minnesota as a whole. Morris has a campus governance structure that includes an Assembly and various committees. All campus constituencies are represented, including faculty, students, P&A (professional and administrative staff), and the United Staff Association (U.S.A.) of civil service and bargaining unit employees. Members of the Morris campus community also participate in University-wide bodies such as the all-University Senate. Faculty, staff and students participate in both campus and all-University governance.

The Benson Center for Community Partnerships is home to the Center for Small Towns and Office of Community Engagement. The Benson Center has an Advisory Council that meets with campus staff and leadership about campus life, priorities, and engagement initiatives.

For the UMN Morris campus, the Campus Assembly is our most important governing body. The powers and responsibilities granted to Campus Assembly include: To establish appropriate policies, procedures, and regulations governing the campus and to act on all issues that materially affect the campus as a whole. Areas included are institutional mission, organizational structure, allocation of resources, budget, curriculum, academic support services, faculty development, honors, functions, admissions, retention, graduation, study abroad, student services, athletics, student activities, awards, financial aid, student behavior, and campus events.
