Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
University of Minnesota Resilient Communities Project (RCP)

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

RCP is a cross-disciplinary program that creates year-long partnerships between the University and communities in Minnesota to advance local sustainability and resilience. University students in graduate or undergraduate classes gain real-world experience and training to be future sustainability practitioners, while community partners gain access to the resources and expertise of the university to build local capacity around sustainability and resilience issues.

The Resilient Communities Project is a great example of partnership-based community engagement. With numerous individual projects planned in the chosen community throughout the year, the program as a whole addresses the environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability and thus has a wide appeal. It has had a significant impact on communities that have participated in the past, building local capacity for sustainability and resilience in the years to come.
