A brief description of the institution’s green athletics program:
TCF Bank Stadium has been operating as a zero-waste stadium since 2003 and continues to refine and improve the program. The stadium was build as LEED certified and is currently exploring ways to partner with graduate research assistant programs to pursue LEED O&M. During stadium construction, bioswales and rain gardens were installed to capture debris and filter water before moving into rainwater systems.
Aramark, the contracted dining partner on campus, requires all sub vendors in the stadium to provide food and drink vessels in compostable packaging.
Parking and Transportation has partnered with stadiums around campus and Metro Transit bus and trains as well as Nice Ride bicycle rental to offer students and guests a sustainable way to get to the stadium during game days.
On gamedays, The Office of Sustainability frequently engages fans to promote the zero waste efforts of the stadium and recently has partnered with the Water Compliance department to inform fans of ways to help keep our waterways clean by disposing of trash responsibly.
