A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
The University, through its governance bodies, administrators, and parnterships with other entities advocate for sustainability policy through published statements, engagement with elected officials, and other means. Additionally, the University connects local leaders with research and outreach on initiatives and policy guidance conducted by U of M faculty and staff. Some recent examples:
- UMN researchers and extension educators providing insight to inform Hennepin County's Climate Action Plan (see page 25; https://www.hennepin.us/climate-action/-/media/climate-action/hennepin-county-climate-action-plan-final.pdf).
-In 2020 the University Senate issued a statement following the killing of George Floyd calling for various actions in the City of Minneapolis and beyond.
