A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:
The U of M recognizes that a faculty reflecting the diversity of our society is important in facilitating the development of world-class scholars and artists. The Institute for Diversity, Equity and Advocacy (IDEA) convenes faculty from the U to collaborate in innovative ways across disciplines, departments, colleges and campuses. IDEA provides opportunities for faculty to connect personally and professionally with others on campus and with the local community. Resources include faculty research grants, sponsorships of symposia and lectures, workshops, and mentorship and development opportunities. The U has also established the Bridge Funding Program designed to work with the colleges to increase diverse faculty hires, as well as a Post-doctoral Diversity Fellowship to recruit and retain divers faculty in partnership with collegiate units and a Pre-doctoral Diversity Teaching Fellowship for diverse doctoral candidates.
