The University of Minnesota is committed to assisting students find housing options that work for them. To discuss specific transgender housing options, students are encouraged to contact the Assistant Director of Residential Life. In addition, the University of Minnesota has Living Learning Communities that accommodate for the educational, social, and developmental needs of students, including transgender and transitioning students. The Lavender House is a Living Learning Community located in Comstock Hall that provides a safe and affirming living environment for transgender and transitioning students, as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, gender queer, and questioning students. Members of the Lavender House are required to take two courses in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) studies where they learn about GLBT history, politics, leadership development, and community building. In addition, Lavender House members are able to participate in opportunities offered by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally (GLBTA) Programs office.
