A brief description of notable policies or programs to make the institution accessible and affordable to low-income students:

Low-income undergraduate students are generally identified as Federal Pell Grant eligible students. In addition to the students receiving Pell Grant, UMD has limited funds to provide Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) to Pell eligible students. Also, these low-income/Pell eligible students, who are MN residents, could qualify for other grants/scholarships through the State of MN and the University of MN Promise programs. Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

Fall 2017 UMD NHS student population exclusively for all four questions.

(A) The percentage of need met is determined by adding gift aids to need-based accepted loans and then dividing by the federal need, excluding any aid awarded in excess of the need for those who received any need-based aid. This calculation only considers the first year of aid.

(B) The cumulative disbursed amount of need-based loans for Fall 2017 NHS students who graduated within 150 percent of the program's published time was used for the percentage calculation from their entry year to the most recent aid year. Unsubsidized loans, PLUS loans, and private loans were excluded.

(C) The Pell eligibility status in the entering year was utilized for this percentage calculation.

(D) Students (fall 2017 UMD NHS) graduated in any University of Minnesota Campus were counted as graduates/success.
