A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

The New Employee Welcome Sheet for UMD includes sustainability information for all new employees, including sustainable transportation options, our zero waste initiatives, food options and information and wellness information.

The new employee orientation video emphasizes sustainable transportation options, including the U-PASS bus program, nearby bus stops, and our Bike-To-Campus program. It also includes information regarding the UMD Land Lab, Large Lakes Observatory, and the Natural Resources Research Institute.

Wellness and work safety are addressed in several areas, including ergonomic assessments and desk positioning. Wellness programming is emphasized, including our Wellness points program and the suite of choices available through Recreational Sports Outdoor Programs, which encourage staff/faculty to get active and enjoy the outdoors around our campus. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is also listed, which provides confidential professional consultation.
