Part 1. Institutional sustainability learning outcomes
Which of the following best describes the sustainability learning outcomes?:
A list of the institution level sustainability learning outcomes:
All undergraduates are required to fulfill Liberal Education course requirements that include at least one 3 credit Sustainability course. Category Description: Courses approved for the Sustainability category focus on developing an awareness of the interaction of the natural environment with societal needs and desires. Courses can come from a variety of disciplines, including interdisciplinary approaches involving two or more departments. Courses will examine ways in which the natural environment interacts with economic, social, and political forces in a local, national and/or global context. Students will develop the ability to understand and analyze the impact of sustainability in their lives.
The Sustainability Learning Outcomes (SLO) are as follows:
SLO 1: Students will demonstrate knowledge of fundamental sustainability principles embedded within systems/contexts.
SLO 2: Students analyze practices or policies that impact human society and the natural environment using sustainability principles.
Part 2. Program-level sustainability learning outcomes
Number of graduates from degree programs that require an understanding of the concept of sustainability:
A brief description of how the figure above was determined:
Academic Year 2021-2022 was used, awarding 2,301 total degrees. See documentation for additional details.
Undergraduate degrees: 2,051*
PreBach/PostBach degrees: 34*
Graduate degrees: 216
486 represents the number of graduates from undergraduate and graduate programs and certificates, but not undergraduate minors. The minor data was not available and also reduces the risk of double counting. Information on what undergraduate and graduate majors, minors, and certificates are sustainability-focused are available in the documentation.
Undergraduate degree programs considered sustainability-focused were identified under AC-3 or require a sustainability-focused course. Sustainability-focused courses are designated as SUSTAIN in the course catalog linked below in order to meet a degree program requirement. Graduate degrees were considered sustainability-focused if they were identified under AC-4.
