A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
A spring 2016 Transportation Survey was used to give the most accurate and up-to-date numbers for sustainable commuting options for UMD students and faculty/staff. The survey was administered to 3,312 people, with 1,027 total responses, for a 31% response rate. The survey asked respondents about their utilization of the following methods of transportation to get to and from UMD: Walking, Bike/moped/motorcycle, DTA/campus shuttle, Carpool, and Drive Alone. We assumed 1/2 of the responses to Bike/Moped/Motorcycle were non-motorized (bicycles) and 1/2 were Moped/Motorcycle. (Future surveys will separate non-motorized bikes from motorized bikes.)
