UMD Market Day in the Plaza, bringing the farmers market to UMD, now accepting state Food Assistance payments

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

UMD has recently integrated a farmers market onto campus during the non winter months. Providing organic, local and hand-made food, jewelry, clothing and other goods. Unique to this event is the way of payment. We have integrated EBT cards (electronic business transfer) for families using SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). This is not common among farmers markets and this allows families of lower income to come to the market day and obtain quality foods and goods with their EBT cards. This is sustainable and innovative because it encourages families to purchase local goods that are healthy and allows them to use EBT cards, also it helps bring people to UMD campus.
