For the students the most popular support system comes from the Student organizations inside the Multicultural Center. It is not 1 on 1 counseling between a student and a faculty person, it is a connections between students going through the same types of issues being part of an under-represented group. An example would the the North Stem program which gives a scholarship to those students of under-represented groups who are pursueing a degree in the sciences. As part of the program there are expectations that the Upperclassmen mentor and guide the lowerclassmen through the first 2 semester of college. This has shown that students are becoming good friends and building long-term relationships.

While there are no programs for the staff or the faculty the Office of Cultural diversity and UMD have now hired a person who will work on setting up programs to mentor and counsel under-represented groups of faculty and staff.
