A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
All incoming on-campus students are required to go through orientation (registration) virtually, and then are required to participate in a form of new student onboarding. For freshman, it is a 4-day Welcome Weekend, and for transfer or non-traditional students, they go through a one-day program called Transition Crookston. Freshman who check-in during Welcome Weekend have the opportunity to get a free water bottle as part of the Fill-It-Forward program. 100% of all new students have the opportunity to participate in Welcome Weekend, and the programming that takes place during the year. Sustainability Office is present at the new student check in; all students are given a water bottle, a guide to recycling in this community, information about the sustainability minor, and directed to the free sale (items left behind/donated from the dorms last year that current students can use in their rooms).
