A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
A survey was sent to all staff and faculty to collect information on the number of employees doing research and if that research focused on any of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). If employees were doing research on SDGs, they were asked to briefly describe the research. The number of employees doing research was based on the survey. Not all tenure faculty at UMC do research. There are a few in staff roles or who have gone part-time as they enter retirement and are no longer doing research. Likewise, not all staff are required to do research. Therefore, we relied on the survey as a sample of employees who conduct research because there is not a consistent requirement to collect this information. There are 25 tenure faculty and all of these are represented in the survey. Thirteen non-tenure faculty indicated that they conducted research in the survey, which mirrors the number of faculty that are on the tenure track.
Note, nonacademic departments are doing research as captured in Part 1 but were not included in Part 2 given the language of the question focused on "academic departments."
