Campus Race to Zero Waste

A brief description of the campaign:
Campus Race to Zero Waste is the perfect opportunity to reach out to the whole student body. The two-month competition allows us to introduce students to the concepts of waste diversion, contamination of recyclables, repurposing, reusing, upcycling, and recycling. ECO Agency leads this event annually.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
ECO Reps and members of the ECO Agency serve as peer educators and event organizers, as they are were charge of developing the educational campaign that lead to an increase in recycling diversion rate overall. The students track waste and recycling rates from all residence halls on campus on a weekly basis throughout the CRZW to drive competition and measure their impact.

Green Office Program

Offices can certify at levels Bronze through Platinum based on their sustainable behaviors. This outreach program is mainly directed towards staff.

- Offices have certified through the program.

Through partnership with the Student Government ECO Agency, UM promotes a Green Event Certification that focuses on waste reduction, plant based menus, and plastic-free utensils and plates.

The Green Lab program at UM is an outreach program directed towards faculty and researchers. Labs can also certify at levels Bronze through Platinum, depending on their sustainable behaviors.
