Recyclemania

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:

Recyclemania is the perfect opportunity to reach out to the whole student body. The 2 month competition allow us to introduce students to the concepts of waste diversion, contamination of recyclables, re purposing, reusing and recycling.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

UM was 2nd in the state for the Per Capita competition of Recyclemania. The Increase in awareness and the increase in actual recycling tonnage has been encouraging.

U Conserve

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):

Geared towards students, staff and faculty, the U Conserve started with a focus on energy conservation. The Campaign worked in 3 phases. The first one was the launch of a campus wide survey; the second one was the creation of a Green Office program that promotes sustainable practices in the workplace. The 3rd phase extended the use of a Lucid Energy tracking system to all buildings on the main campus, allowing people to verify in real time, the energy use of their building and compare it with others.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

More than 35 offices and departments have applied to the Green Office program.
The survey allowed us to assess the needs, the knowledge and future adaptation strategies to promote sustainability throughout the UM community. It especially helped us design new programs for the dorms, student events, move in and move out.
