Ecosystem Science and Policy Abess Center undergraduate program learning outcomes:

The ECS program provides students with a broad background in environmental issues from a variety of perspectives, along with in-depth education in an area of specialization. The ECS major offers a series of problem-based learning courses, culminating in a capstone course in the senior year. Courses emphasize integration of science and policy approaches to real-world environmental issues. This preparation gives students both the theoretical background and technical skills to pursue environmental careers in, teaching and research, as well as for careers in government and private industries concerned with the environment.

ECS- Undergraduate Sustainability Certificate:
To equip students with knowledge and skills for implementing positive change through environmentally responsible practices in various fields; to serve as a curricular adjunct to sustainable initiatives at UM; to foster a culture of conservation at the University; to enhance students’ preparation for a variety of careers, including engineering, architecture, business, marketing, government, and more; and to affirm UM’s commitment to sustainability and complement its efforts to enhance environmental education.

Learning Outcome : The primary intellectual goal of the studio is the development of student understanding of architecture and its relationship to the natural environment. Students work directly with the fundamental site issues in order to understand basic relationships of the natural and built world. Students acquire knowledge of siting principles along with the skills and tools to document, analyze and design a building site and the building itself.
