A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

UMass Lowell's Office of Sustainability typically conducts a comprehensive outreach and education campaign with orientation staff each summer to ensure that our orientation leaders are fully informed of the sustainability program at UMass Lowell. Despite major changes for new student orientation during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office of Sustainability remains engaged with UMass Lowell orientation staff to find creative ways to weave in sustainability themes. All in-person and virtual orientation tours prominently feature sustainability, examples include LEED certified buildings, sustainable transportation options, and sustainable food systems including a rooftop garden adjacent to the admissions office.

In addition, Office of Sustainability staff table at each orientation welcome fair during summer and winter break. Sustainability materials are also included in incoming student's orientation packets.

Lastly, transferring and entering graduate students have to take part in orientation and have access to the same resources and materials as noted above.
