A brief description of the institution’s sustainability projects fund:
The students voted for an opt-in fee to be added to their bills in 2014 & 2015. The total amount collected was approximately $144,000. The intent was to make available for projects that positively affect student life in the area of sustainability, some funds. The hope was that this would spur the institution into adopting these practices or programs into its operations. The initial funding of water bottle filling stations lead to a new standard for the Capital Planning office to institute this with all new construction as well as any areas undergoing renovations. This was also the start of the Green Move Out program and subsequent New2U Yard Sale in the fall, which has now been institutionalized.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
A students committee of 10 students appointed by the Student Senate president are selected from Student Senators, Sustainability minors and students at large. They hear proposals collected from within the campus community and decide whether or not to fund them
