A brief description of how and when the cultural assessment(s) were developed and/or adopted:
The university has partnered with NORESCO to assess the attitudes and behaviors of residential students. Students receive a pre-survey at the beginning of fall semester and a post-survey at the end of the semester.
The data is analyzed and reported back to the staff within Housing and Residential Education, Facilities Operations and Dining Services, where appropriate. This has resulted in changes to compost collection, training of custodians around recycling as well as signage and co-location of recycling bins.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:
All residential students are asked to fill out a survey. This occurs at either move in day in order to get their keys to one of our apartment-style buildings, or while students were in line waiting for elevators to take their belongings upstairs, or at their first floor meeting.
A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:
Over the past 9 years we have seen students show a greater participating in recycling, notice that the University does a better job of having bins available for recycling and that they think that the staff does not pay as close attention to recycling. They also report every year that they increase the amount of loads of laundry they do using cold water settings. Measuring their shower times is a challenge as we can't get an accurate assessment of their shower times when they enter the campus. However, once they start paying attention, we see a more accurate number. Further studies have shown that when they are monitoring their shower times, that they do go down. This is also helped when they bring their phones and listen to no more than 2 songs while in the shower.
