Student groups

Yes

Roots & Shoots: A group founded on the work of Dr. Jane Goodall, who visited the campus in the fall of 2016.

Sunrise Movement: This group focuses on forwarding the issue of carbon reduction, student activism and the basic tenants of the Green New Deal.

Yes

A brief description of the gardens, farms, community supported agriculture (CSA) or fishery programs, and/or urban agriculture projects:
The Sustainability Minor has a course, SUS 201-Food Systems, that has planned and planted two different gardens. The Edible Garden at Pine Dale/Oak Glen now has two, raised beds where they are growing kiwi, paw paw, asparagus, strawberries, asian pears and apples. The species were all chosen to provide fruit late in the growing season when students are back on campus in significant numbers.

Sustainable investment and finance 

Does the institution have a sustainable investment fund, green revolving fund, or sustainable microfinance initiative through which students can develop socially, environmentally and fiscally responsible investment and financial skills?:
Yes

The campus had an active Green Fee in 2019. The committee solicited proposals from students, faculty and staff to fund projects that forwarded a sustainable principle. The 12 students on the committee were able to solicit proposal, evaluate and fund them.

Yes

The sustainability office hosts ongoing brown-bag lunch panels, speaker series, film screenings, and over events for all constituents.

Yes

Spring of 2019 the Post-Landfill Action Network brought their eco-fair to campus. It included a campus-wide trash audit, a make your own sewing kit and reuse clinic.

We also had the 3D Sculpture Class focus on sustainable principles and did three different projects around found objects, recycling something into something different and an outdoor sculpture display within our forest.

One of the Living-Learning Communities within the First Year residential buildings was focused on Sustainable values, including working with an artist in residence around creative, place-making projects around sustainable themes.

The Green Navigators are a team of college work study students who are focused on being change agents and role models regarding energy usage, recycling behaviors and a check and balance to campus operations.
