A brief description of the key components of the custom OHSMS:
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) develops policies, programs, and procedures to maintain an safe and healthy campus for students, faculty, and staff. All environmental health and safety initiatives are built upon the best practices, which include federal and state regulations, nationally recognized codes, and established professional practices. Through the OEHS learning management system, safety trainings are available, many of which are required for certain groups of students, faculty, and staff. OEHS has emergency plans to follow in the event of a fire or medical emergency, and first aid and emergency evacuation procedures. Other services provided by the OEHS include fire safety, laboratory safety, worker and campus safety, environmental programs, education and training, and emergency response. There is also an Occupational Health and Safety Program for Animal Users. Participation in this program is required for any UMB individual that works with animals. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts provides a workers compensation program to support state employees who incur a workplace injury. The program is administered by the Universities Human Resources Department. The University enters incident reports to HRD/WCS system. HRD/WCS then approves or denies the claim.
