Throughout the workshop, participants are challenged to have conversations of race and racism, and how it manifests in peoples work and lives. The aim is to increase awareness on institutional awareness and explore ways racism can be undone in the participants community.
Sexual Harassment Training:
The University of Massachusetts is committed to ensuring that all faculty and staff are well-trained in the laws, regulations and University policies that impact our rights and obligations as members of the University community and as Massachusetts public employees. This training is mandatory for all employees, including part-time employees and student employees. The training is in compliance with the newest Title IX regulations that were issued by the U.S Department of Education Office of Civil Rights.
UMB requires all incoming students to complete "Consent and Respect", an online course from 3rd Millennium Classrooms. The course covers all of the Title IX requirements to promote respectful, healthy relationships. Through this course students will be able to know the importance of giving and receiving consent and will understand that consent is essential. Additional learning includes safe and positive strategies for bystanders to use and the warning signs for abusive behavior in intimate partner relationships.
Inclusive Excellence Training:
More than 60% of UMB employees have participated in Inclusive Excellence Training. This training focuses on pronouns and gender identity, as well as racial and identity based microaggressions.
Departmental training:
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) collaborates with different departments to deliver specific training. ODEI partners with career services to provide trainings on imposter syndrome, identity in the workplace, and career navigation for first generation college students. They also partner with the college of management MAPS program, to provide participants with 1 hour workshops on microaggressions, pronouns, and bias. ODEI offers trainings upon request, and offer events open to the UMB community, which are broadcasted to student clubs.
Center for Innovative Teaching (CIT):
CIT is a faculty-led organization, committed to fostering a diverse learning environment for students of all backgrounds. CIT is an active network of faculty, staff, and students who regularly engage in critical reflection and dialogue that deepen and extend a culture of engaged learning, academic excellence, and curricular and pedagogical transformation at UMass Boston. CIT sponsors forums and workshops every semester which cover various topics including decolonizing higher education, sexual minority student development, anti-racist teaching practices and more.
