A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

The campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst is located nearly entirely in Amherst, MA, with a portion located in Hadley, MA. Founded on 310 acres in rural Western Massachusetts, the campus has grown to consisting of nearly 1,450 acres.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school Yes Yes
Medical school No No
Other professional school with labs and clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) No No
Satellite campus Yes No
Farm larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares Yes Yes
Agricultural experiment station larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares Yes Yes
Hospital No No

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:

Our first satellite campus for the entire Five Campus UMass System was opened in Springfield, MA on March 25th, 2014. The Center at Springfield is 26,000 SF and can accomodate 900 students, faculty and staff. However, UMass does not own nor operate the facility and therefore it is difficult to gain access to any data related to the operations of this facility. For this reason, we have not included it in this report.
