A brief description of the institution’s third party certified land holdings:

The University of Maryland College Park campus landscape was designated an arboretum and botanical garden in 2008. Since, the campus has been named a Tree Campus Higher Education for thirteen consecutive years. In 2019, UMD’s Arboretum and Botanical Gardens became a Level IV ArbNet Accredited Arboretum by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum, for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens. The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism.
