SustainableUMD Magazine
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In 2018, the Office of Sustainability published the fourth edition of its SustainableUMD Magazine. This biennial magazine highlights sustainable efforts on campus and successful innovations. This most recent edition featured university achievements in solar energy including the student built solar decathlon home, reACT. Other articles featured include the new Anytime Dining program, campus compost expansion, the student beekeeping club, and aquaponics research. The magazine is published in print and online. The website URL links in the Optional Fields and Notes sections below contain the 2018, 2016, 2014, and 2012 copies of the magazine. The next edition will be published in fall 2020.
In addition, the Office of Sustainability held a SustainableUMD celebration event to launch the magazine. Everyone on campus was invited to attend and free copies of the magazine were provided. Opening remarks were provided by Linda Clement, Vice President of Student Affairs. Joanne Throwe, Deputy Secretary, Department of Natural Resources gave a keynote address. The event also featured farm to table refreshments and music.
