Green Offices Program

A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
The Green Office Program is a voluntary and competitive program that rewards all UMBC staff and faculty for adopting more sustainable practices. The program is open to every office/department at UMBC.

The program seeks to:

-Help offices understand how sustainable their current operations are
-Train members and provide resources on ways offices can operate more efficiently and sustainably
-Reward and recognize offices for reducing their impact
- Empower "Green" Leaders at the department/office level across all units of UMBC

The Green Office Program is designed to cover various topics and situations applicable to the various offices and departments across campus. Specific areas include:
Energy
Climate
Waste
Transportation
Purchasing
Education & Outreach
Innovative Practices

A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):
All employees interested in the Green Office program receive a 1-hour training and must complete an assessment.
Invite the Sustainability Office to your next staff meeting to provide a brief overview of the program
Get supervisor’s approval for your area’s space to join the program
Identify a small group of colleagues to help you implement the program
Collect the information to prepare for your assessment
Complete the Green Office Program Assessment
Get your Score!

UMBC Green Labs Ambassador Program

A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):
UMBC is pleased to support the My Green Lab Ambassador Program. The program is designed for scientists and laboratory professionals who are motivated to encourage their lab to be more sustainable. This free, online learning program will provide you with a quick introduction to lab sustainability and ideas for how sustainable actions can be implemented at your organization. By becoming a My Green Lab Ambassador you will be able to jumpstart your lab’s journey into sustainability.

Labs that have successfully completed the My Green Lab Ambassador Program should submit a copy of their certificate to the sustainability office. Those labs will be considered UMBC Green Labs!
