A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
The office of sustainability is included in the Retriever Roundup portion of orientation. This portion of orientation day is designed to allow new students to "reconnect with your family and friends while enjoying some light refreshments and being able to chat one-on-one with UMBC community members."

During the Retriever Round up the office of sustainability engages with incoming students and provides them with various pieces of information related to sustainability on campus. We specifically address: how to conserve energy, proper waste management, food insecurity, how to get more involved, and where to learn more.
