A brief description of each sustainability office:
The Office of Sustainability acts as a champion for sustainability efforts in university, regional, national and global affairs through collaboration with students, faculty, staff, local community, and partners across higher education. Since its inception in 2013, the Office of Sustainability has been an engagement hub for the University community through the facilitation of sustainability learning and practices on and off-campus. The office provides planning and decision-making support, and ensures accountability and transparency. The office has played a key role in developing and accomplishing many sustainability-related plans including the creation of the UM Climate Action Plan. With the help of many stakeholders, a plan was created to help guide the university to its goal of a 50% emissions reduction by 2030 and 100% reduction by 2050. The Office has also successfully implemented an updated Green Office program, a Green Events guide, progressed University Childcare forward, and launched a Sustainability 101 course for all staff, students and faculty to ensure everyone coming to campus knows of the sustainability resources available to them. There are many more initiatives planned for the Office of Sustainability including the completion of the Sustainable Design Guidelines that focus on how our buildings on campus are built, maintained and decommissioned in a sustainable and responsible manner.
