A brief description of the diversity, equity, and/or inclusion recognition:

Here are some of the reasons why the University of Manitoba was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers (2022):

University of Manitoba awards unique Success Through Wellness Grants to staff and students who propose projects that engage the campus community in fostering positive mental health and well-being.

One of the university's strategic priorities is to create pathways to Indigenous achievement for various members of its community -- to support this priority, UM created Gaa wii ji'i diyaang, a council of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples walking together and helping to create a community through relationship building, education, advocacy and action.

UM maintains faculty equity, diversity and inclusion committees, who meet regularly to further workplace inclusion and understand issues raised by faculty and staff -- the committee participates extensively in initiatives by helping to establish, communicate, promote and foster inclusion and diversity in the workplace and report to the Dean.
